Galaxy Express 999

1978-81.  A fantastic Sci-Fi anime based on Leiji Matsumoto's manga (graphic novel).  The story about space travel in the future world.  The hero Tetsuro Hoshino is a boy who travels with a mysterious woman named Maetel to get a mechanical body (eternal life) by 999, a spaceship which looks like a steam locomotive.  The chief director is Nobutaka Nishizawa.  113 episodes.  Produced by Toei Animation.  There are the movie versions too.
