Devilman

An unorthodox hero action/horror anime based on the manga (graphic novel) by Go Nagai.  The story of a high school boy named Akira Fudo, who was united with a Demon and became a Devilman, but decided to fight against the Demons to defend his beloved girl, Miki Makimura.  39 episodes.  Produced by Toei Animation.  There are the OAV series too.  The Manga version is one of the greatest works of Japanese Manga.
